Switzerland’s top criminal court dealt Roman Polanski another setback in his fight against extradition to the United States on Tuesday ruling the 76-year-old director be kept in jail because he poses a high flight risk.
The Federal Criminal Court rejected offers by Polanski’s legal team of bail, house arrest and other measures to ensure that he stays in Switzerland. He has been a fugitive since fleeing the United States in 1978 after being convicted for having sex with a 13-year-old girl the year before.
The director of Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown and other critically acclaimed films was arrested by Swiss authorities last month in Zurich.
