Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift win American Music Awards

Country star Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson each won four prizes at the midway point of the American Music Awards on Sunday, while Jennifer Lopez fell on her rear end during her performance. Swift and Jackson lead the contenders at the 37th annual ceremony, with six and five nominations, respectively, and will vie for the event's final honor, artist of the year. Swift, 19, accepted her awards live via satellite from backstage at London's Wembley Arena, where she will perform a concert on Monday. She was named favorite female artist in the pop/rock and country categories, and favorite adult-contemporary artist -- tributes to her wide crossover appeal. Her 2008 album "Fearless," the best-selling release in the United States this year, was named favorite country album. Jackson was named favorite male artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. His brother Jermaine accepted on his behalf, thanking Allah "for blessing my entire family." The singer, who died of an overdose in June, also won two awards that were announced off the air. His hits collection "Number Ones" was named favorite album in the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories, beating out Swift in the latter. The other contenders for artist of the year are glam pop star Lady Gaga, rapper Eminem and rock band Kings of Leon.

Hip-hop act the Black Eyed Peas won two awards, as favorite group in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. Punk rock trio Green Day was named favorite alternative artist. Rascal Flatts won favorite country group for the fourth year in a row.

Michael Jackson autopsy reveals he was relatively healthy – could pose problems for his doctor

A seemingly frail Michael Jackson was apparently healthier then he looked. A recent autopsy report originally obtained by the Associated Press revealed that though his arms, face, and neck were scarred—reportedly from plastic surgeries—his heart, kidneys and other major organs were allegedly normal for a 50-year-old man. When he died in June, Jackson’s most serious health issues were chronically inflamed lungs and arthritis in his lower spine, neither of which was serious enough to have directly caused death. The coroner’s office, which deemed Jackson’s death a homicide last month, concluded that he died from acute intoxication of the anesthetic propofol, as well as the two other sedatives (known as benzodiazepines)

As you all know, the investigation surrounding the loss of Michael Jackson has narrowed its focus to his personal physician. And from the details emerging, there may be good cause. Michael hired Dr. Conrad Murray in March of this year, and the Doctor had been treating Michael’s insomnia with a positive bus-load of drugs ever since. Strongest among them was Propofol. And this is the choice that may be his undoing. The fateful dawn of June 25 was a long time in coming. Dr. Murray had been tending Michael all night, using various drugs that might help him rest. Then, according to the Police affidavit, at 11am he noticed his patient was no longer breathing. Yet he took 82 minutes to call 911. This dire news is contained in a search warrant, now unsealed because of the manslaughter case. The warrant reveals that Dr. Murray had been tending to Jackson several times through the night at his Holmby Hills mansion and gave him Propofol at around 10.40am. He then says he retired to the bathroom for a few minutes, and when he returned he found Michael lifeless. But Police subpoenaed his cellphone records and found he was on the phone for 47 minutes after that time, making three separate calls. The Police are suggesting he was calling for help. As you might expect, Dr.Murray’s attorney, Edward Chernoff, has other views; “Much of what was in the search warrant affidavit is factual,” he told People. “However, much is police theory. The timeline was not obtained from Dr. Murray. He never said he found Michael not breathing at 11am.” The LAPD report on the case also says the Doctor never told either the Paramedics or the staff at the LA Medical Center that he’d used Propofol – despite lethal amounts being found at Michael’s post mortem  Instead, Murray merely listed a sedative, ‘Lorazepam,’ and its antidote. He also refused to sign the death certificate. And when Police arrived he was nowhere in sight. Dr. Murray told LAPD detectives he had given Michael 50mg of Propofol every night for six weeks, but had recently been trying to reduce the dosage as he suspected the singer was becoming addicted. Yet LAPD officers say Dr. Murray’s name does not appear on any record of a recent Propofol purchase that they could locate. Also, when they searched Jackson’s home, countless drug vials were found which bore no label indicating their intended patient. The LA Coroner’s Office has now labeled the star’s death as a homicide. Dr. Murray, however, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and the case is ongoing.
