While most reality TV is driven by melodramatics and self-serving scandals to drive up the ratings, ‘The Bachelor,’ ABC’s dating show for the hopelessly love-lorn is getting far more than its share. The latest intellectual insult is found in a story, relayed by The NY Post, that, while one female contestant on the upcoming season was busily chasing the unmarried prey, she was also getting sweaty with one of the crew.
ABC’s reps are refusing to comment on who the girl is – but they’re now airing a promo just to get viewers hooked;
“She’s been having a sexual affair with somebody else in the Bachelor House,” says one of the women in the clip.
See that? – ‘She’ and ‘Somebody else’. No names – you’re supposed to be stupid enough to tune in to get that part.
Since the last season closed in October, online message boards have been filled with well-founded complaints from the show’s hardcore fans that it’s now getting stale after 13 sad seasons. And what’s ABC’s best solution? They leak a story that one contestant has broken the rules, then refuse to give names so people have to watch to find out.
The show’s last season – and most folks wish it could be – was marred by an equally obvious ploy: Bachelor, Jason Mesnick chose Melissa Rycroft, then ‘changed his mind’ and picked her runner-up, Molly Malaney. The press had a fit, the pair flew to New Zealand, Jason proposed…and whaddya know – she said yes!
…Yawn.
This season’s outing stars Jake Pavelka (photo top right), a commercial airline pilot from Dallas – who was already rejected by Jillian on last season’s ‘Bachelorette.’ for being ‘too dull and lifeless’…Which makes ABC think he’s perfect for this…why??
If you have low expectations of those who create your entertainment, and nothing better to do on a weeknight, the show in which ABC plan to ‘reveal’ the misbehaving contestant will air late next month, according to ABC staff.
