Less than three months after an unhappy romance won her a night in the ER, Alexa Ray Joel – daughter of singing star Billy Joel – has landed a job where she’ll follow her supermodel mom, Christie Brinkley in promoting Prell hair care. “I am so excited and honored to be named the new face of Prell,” Alexa, 24, told Page Six. “Especially when I’m following in the footsteps of my mother.” Assuming the role more than two decades after Christie secured it, Alexa will now appear in both print and TV ads for the range, and her own music will provide most of the soundtrack. “This is Alexa’s first ad campaign,” says her rep. “It’s for print and TV for Spring and Summer, and we’ll also shoot a Fall campaign.” A hair-care staple since its debut in 1947, Prell achieved mass awareness in 1986, after Momma Joel – who had just married Billy - showed off her mane, oozing about how the shampoo was, ‘My bodybuilding system for hair.’ And this marks quite a turn-round for Alexa’s dormant career – On December 5 she made a half-hearted ’suicide’ attempt, swallowing a small handful of homeopathic pain pills. Three weeks later, via her Facebook account she announced there were suddenly “many exciting new developments for the New Year…including media projects.” Far be it from me to suggest that ’suicide’ was really a publicity stunt, but if it were it seems to have worked…
