Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal over and done (again)

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal over and done (again)

Just a few weeks ago People Magazine breathlessly proclaimed Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were done as a couple, but Reese’s spokesperson quickly put the kibosh on the story.  But now if you can believe new reports the couple have decided end their two-year relationship, but sources insist the split is amicable.

An E! Online source seems to have the best explanation for the off and on and off situation, saying: “They needed time to figure it out and they were on different coasts. When they were finally together, they talked it out and decided they’re not going to be together anymore.”And another source says, they also wanted to be careful and private about it because of Reese’s kids,” i.e. Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. We’ll see if a spokesperson wants to confirm the breakup but for now it appears Jake and Reese are no longer a couple.

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal and the politics of celebrity gossip

The usually reliable People Magazine had to eat a little crow after breaking the story that Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal had split-up, after one of it’s rivals, US Magazine, turned the tables on them. US Magazine quickly countered with their own story saying the break-up rumor was false after talking to Reese’s spokesperson, who said, “They have not split.”

I have noticed for years how People Magazine has quickly doused hot rumors by rivals, with a quick counter story of their own using a stars spokesperson to deny the story. I say ‘using’ because I think in some cases it’s obvious there is merit to a story (the early Madonna wants a divorce from Guy Ritchie rumors comes to mind), but spokepeople are often instructed to deny to protect their clients and perhaps manage a better timing to admit the truth. It’s a win-win for magazines like People to do this, because it builds points and perhaps cooperation with the star and their spokeperson in the future, while taking a rival’s exclusive story down a peg.

Kirsten Dunst Talks Jake Gyllenhaal, Cuddly Bed Friends, And a Roadtrip

Kirsten Dunst was quoted in a recent magazine interview with Allure on a few revelations about her life.

She started out talking about her ex-boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal. The two were together for a little over two years, and lived together for much of that time. However, they split up in 2004.
“It would be nice to see him, but we’re not good friends,” the actress admitted.
While Jake is now dating Reese Witherspoon, one might wonder who’s frequenting Kirsten’s bed of late? Apparently nobody but her girlfriends.
“My girlfriends will sleep in bed with me, but no guests, not long-term, anyway,” she said, speaking about single life. I guess the rumors of her ‘enormous’ crush on Robert Pattinson, haven’t been fulfilled just yet.
She also recently took a road trip with her friend, to see how the rest of America lives, seeing New Orleans, the Grand Canyon, and Graceland.

“After we were done, I was like, ‘Wow, America is so poor’. Just the towns you come across — all that’s there are restaurants and gas stations. There are beautiful stretches of pasture, but for the most part, people live simply. The East and West Coast are so different from the rest of America.”
Dunst also spoke about her role in murder-mystery ‘All Good Things,’ which is why she’s giving interviews in the first place:
“After this film, I think people will see me in a different light. You can explore stuff inside yourself that you can’t really mess around with in real life, and it is such a release. In ‘All Good Things’ I got to play out things emotionally-I can recognize the behavior that I share with this character, then work things out that I didn’t have a way of expressing.”
