Since Simon Cowell announced he was vacating his throne at American Idol, the show’s producers have been deluged by stars of all sizes, eager to grab Simon’s seat….so to speak.“A day doesn’t pass that I don’t get a call from an agent of a superstar saying, ‘Can we talk?’” says show creator, Simon Fuller. “Everyone’s interested, and that’s going to go on for months.”
With Cowell not due to depart until next season, the 49-year old British producer is in no rush to pick a new Judge. But while this season sees Ellen DeGeneres make her debut as Paula Abdul’s replacement, rumors of Simon’s successor are already in play.
And the name that is rumored to be leading the pack is another Brit with an edge – Elton John.
But with his quest now creating acres of [free] media interest, Mr. Fuller, of course, is not talking…much;
“I’ll be in the luxury position of looking at all the greatest stars of the world. We can do so much with it,” he says.
Elton was a guest-judge on season three of the show and does seem to have what it takes – He knows more about music than Simon could spell, he can be a real bitch when it’s needed, and he’s a Brit.
TMZ called Elton’s rep to see if the pudgy piano-pounder from Pinner was open to taking the throne? “He’s on holiday.” was her terse and ill-tempered reply.
…Sounds like we got ourselves a spare bitch?
Elton would fit this show like a pink, sequined glove, but nothing’s been signed – and with all the press this is getting you can bet his will not be the last name to be ‘leaked’ – they could tease this out for a year.
